Ladies' 2s

Picture the scene…September 2007, GHK grounds, Glasgow. The cream of the reserve hockey crop are limbering up, anticipation for the first match of the season oozing out of every pore. Stick? Check. Shin pads? Check. Victory? Just a matter of time…
As the whistle blows a new season has begun for the super seconds. Victory eluded us on that virginal day but the second’s spirit has remained firmly in tact throughout the first half of the season. With a solid squad filled with experience, desire and an unquenchable thirst, the 2s have pocketed a mighty one win, two hard fought draws and a mere eight losses. The final game against Kelburne away was Match of the Day material. Despite the horizontal rain, frozen limbs and several dodgy decisions, we succeeded in securing a 3-3 draw and ended the first half of the season on a high.
This season we have welcomed lots of new blood to the squad – Nadia, Ruth, Jenny, Joanna and Michelle joined us from the 3s and 4s and Claire, Alex, Sophia and Natalie ditched the other clubs and chose the bosom of Watsonian Ladies’ 2s. These fresh faced fillies have mixed well with the old crew and a tasty new concoction has been created.

The race for 2s top goal scorer is a nail biting affair. Kath and Kerry are tied for top spot with three goals each and Sue is nipping at their heels with a tantalising two. The victor will have earned the respect of her peers, plus a pair of jugs at the end of season dinner. The field is still open and the fat lady is far from singing - may the dirty tricks commence!
Huge thanks must go to Rhona MacLennan who has coached us this season. The team has strengthened under her training regime and top tips and we’re delighted that she’s agreed to stay on for the rest of the season. Unfortunately, our mighty victory and five goals has failed to get us into the top half of the league for part two of the season - but with the right attitude from the squad there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have a victorious time and a few laughs along the way.
