2009-10
East U16 Cup
The Men's U16s started the tournament at Meggetland with a strong performance against Dunfermline Carnegie and dominated the game, but had to wait until late in the game before taking the lead through a Danny Cain short corner strike. A well worked move from the breakdown of another short corner saw Peter Akyol double the lead shortly after and the game finished 2-0.
In the 2nd game which was back to back with the first one saw 'Sonians caught cold as CALA took an early lead and then doubled it shortly after. This gave 'Sonians a mountain to climb but they dominated the game from then on in. Midway through the 2nd half Rob Paterson grabbed a goal back as 'Sonians laid siege to the CALA goal but they were unable to get the equaliser and the game finished 2-1 to CALA.
The final game was against Inverleith, who had won their previous 2 games. Inverleith took an early lead and doubled it shortly before half-time. 'Sonians rallied and dominated the 2nd half, with Inverleith happy to sit back and defend their lead. Despite a series of short corners at the end 'Sonians were unable to get the consolation goal their efforts deserved and the game finished 2-0 to Inverleith who were the well deserved winners of the tournament and go on to represent East in the Scottish Cup at Peffermill on 14th March.

Grange U16s (H) Won 4-3
In bitterly cold and wet conditions the first 'Sonians U16 game of the season was a great success with a cracking game of hockey ending 4-3 in favour of the young 'Sonians.
The game started at a great pace, probably an attempt by both teams to keep warm, in front of a good and enthusiastic crowd at Tipperlinn. Jamie Connor put 'Sonians ahead after a good move down the right and the lead was quickly doubled by skipper Danny Cain from a short corner. Grange pulled one back with a Penalty Flick. Rory Price and Stuart Nickerson scored either side of a Grange goal making the half time score 4-2.
The second half was a very keenly contested half with neither side backing out of any tackles and the game was raging from end to end. Cameron Spiteri was making some great saves in goals and his defence were also doing well to repell the onslaught from Grange who managed to pull one back before the end but couldn't quite find the equaliser.
Both teams can be very proud of the hockey that was played in very poor conditions and 'Sonians can look forward to the forthcoming games with confidence.
Thanks to Geoge Thornton for organising and umpiring.
