U14s finish 4th in Scottish Finals
Watsonians U14s finished 4th in the Scottish Cup Finals on 30 May, after a busy day of hockey at Peffermill.
The day started well, with a last-minute winner by Barrie Lyell earning a 2-1 win against a strong Perthshire team, who went ahead before Andrew Oliphant's equaliser. Watsonians then beat Granite City 3-1, with goals by Holly McMaster, Andrew Oliphant and Stuart Nickerson, to qualify for the semi-finals. In their last group game Kelburne took a 2-0 lead, but 'Sonians dominated the 2nd half and were unlucky to only score once through Ellis Smith.
In an exciting semi-final, Inverleith took a 2-0 lead before another spirited fight-back led to a goal by Holly McMaster. 'Sonians hit the post late on but couldn't grab an equaliser. A very weary team lost 2-1 to Clydesdale in the 3rd/4th play-off, with a goal by Barrie Lyell, but should be proud of their achievements this season. In the final, Kelburne beat Inverleith 1-0.
Thanks to Rachael Cave for umpiring so well all day.
U14s win East shield
Watsonians won the East U14 tournament for the first time ever after a great day's hockey at MES. The team started strongly with 7-0 and 8-0 wins over Firrhill and Livingston, before drawing 1-1 with Cala, leaving them top of the group on goal difference. In the semi-final against Grange the team played their best hockey of the day, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Stuart Nickerson and Barrie Lyell. Read More
